Practical guide: recording your vocals at home or in a studio

You've written a text, found a topline, or simply want to record your vocals to move forward with your project. But you don't have a professional studio on hand.

🎧 1. The minimum viable setup

If you have limited means:

• Recommended USB microphone : Rode NT-USB, Samson Meteor, Blue Yeti

• Closed headphones : Audio-Technica ATH-M20x, Beyerdynamic DT240

🛏️ 2. Create a mini cabin at home

The room you record in is almost as important as the microphone itself.

• Avoid empty rooms or rooms with tiles

• Place yourself between mattresses, curtains, blankets

• Use a pop filter if possible (or a stocking stretched over a hanger)

🎚️ 3. Recording Tips

• Keep a stable distance from the microphone (15–20 cm)

• Speak slightly above the microphone, never directly into it

• Monitor the input level : never clip or saturate

• Record your tracks in .wav, 24-bit, mono
